Twins RHP Pablo Lopez (forearm) to miss rest of season

Heading to the injured list for the third time this season, Minnesota Twins right-hander Pablo Lopez will miss the remainder of the season with a mild forearm strain in his pitching arm.

Placed on the 15-day IL on Saturday, Lopez went 5-4 in 14 starts with a 2.74 ERA over 75 2/3 innings. The 29-year-old missed time with a right hamstring strain and was also sidelined for three months with a Grade 2 strain in his pitching shoulder.

In a corresponding roster move, rookie right-hander Mick Abel was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul.

The 24-year-old Abel is 0-2 with a 24.75 ERA in two games (one start) with Minnesota since coming over in the trade deadline deal that sent closer Jhoan Duran to Philadelphia. Overall, Abel is 2-4 with a 7.76 ERA in eight games (seven starts) after making his MLB debut with the Phillies in May.

An All-Star in 2023, Lopez has spent the past three seasons with the Twins after opening his career with the Miami Marlins from 2018-22.

Lopez is 59-53 with a 3.81 ERA over 172 games (all starts). Over 965 innings, the righty has 994 strikeouts and 251 walks.
