Jose Ramirez hit a three-run homer and Bo Naylor and Kyle Manzardo had solo shots as the Cleveland Guardians beat the visiting Baltimore Orioles 10-5 in their series opener Monday night.
Manzardo’s sixth-inning blast off Colin Selby (0-1) gave Cleveland a 6-5 lead, while Naylor went deep against Corbin Martin in the fifth and Ramirez homered off Tomoyuki Sugano in the first. Brayan Rocchio added a two-run single.
It was Ramirez’s 20th home run of the season, allowing him to join Chicago Cubs standout Pete Crow-Armstrong as the only players in the 20 homer-20 stolen base club in 2025.
The Guardians are 8-2 since losing 10 in a row from June 26 to July 6, which includes a 3-1 record on their homestand that began against the Athletics. They trailed 5-3 Monday night going into the fourth inning and scored four times in the seventh, two on bases-loaded walks issued by Grant Wolfram.
Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee (6-9) allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits in seven innings to win his second straight start. The right-hander struck out four without a walk.
Ramon Laureano hit a two-run homer and drove in a season-high four runs for the Orioles, who have lost five times in their last six games. Laureano was released by the Guardians on May 25, 2024.
Gunnar Henderson opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI single that drove in Jackson Holliday. Laureano’s blast to left field came two batters later.
Baltimore starter Tomoyuki Sugano was lifted after 3 2/3 innings and a season-high four walks. The right-hander gave up four runs, three of them earned, on six hits while striking out four.
Martin, Colin Selby and Wolfram combined to give up six runs, eight hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.
