Darryn Peterson finished with 32 points in 32 minutes, Tre White added 22 and No. 22 Kansas stormed back late for a 104-100 overtime victory over TCU on Tuesday night in Lawrence, Kan.
The Jayhawks (11-4, 1-1 Big 12) were down by 15 with just over four minutes left and by nine with 74 seconds left in regulation. But they battled back in the final minutes, tying the game when Peterson was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made three free throws with 1.7 seconds left.
In overtime, KU used an 8-2 spurt to take a 97-91 lead with just over one minute left. Peterson, who has battled leg injuries all season, did not play in overtime. He was on the bench in the final minutes of regulation, too, before checking in for the last possession.
The Jayhawks had a chance to win it in regulation after TCU airmailed a full-court inbounds pass, but Peterson missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Melvin Council Jr. finished with 18 points, six rebounds and eight assists, and Flory Bidunga added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Jayhawks.
The Frogs (11-4, 1-1) started to separate themselves in the second half, going on an 18-1 run and building a 67-51 lead with under 12 minutes left. The stretch included 3-pointers on consecutive possessions by Jayden Pierre and Tanner Toolson, who knocked down his basket as the shot clock expired.
However, missed free throws, turnovers and foul trouble were costly down the stretch. Liutauras Lelevicius had 23 points and six rebounds, David Punch added 20 points and nine rebounds and Jayden Pierre and Micah Robinson both finished with 16 points to lead the Frogs.
There were 10 ties and 10 lead changes in the game.
Up next, Kansas travels to West Virginia and TCU hosts No. 1 Arizona on Saturday.
