Jaylen Crocker-Johnson added 14 points and seven boards for Minnesota (6-5), which bounced back from a loss on the road against No. 6 Purdue in its previous game. Isaac Asuma finished with 13 points, and Bobby Durkin chipped in 12.

Alex Anderson scored 11 points to lead Texas Southern (1-7). Bryce Roberts added 10 points, and Troy Hupstead had eight.

Minnesota shot 49.1% (28 of 57) overall and 44.1% (15 of 34) from 3-point range. Texas Southern shot 35.8% (19 of 53) from the field and 16.7% (3 of 18) from deep.

The Golden Gophers finished with a 24-7 advantage in points off turnovers.

Minnesota raced to a 45-25 lead at the half.

Texas Southern proved competitive in the early going. Anthony Andrews knocked down a 3-pointer for the Tigers’ first basket, and Roberts followed that up with a jump shot to put Texas Southern on top 5-3 with 17:34 to go.

That proved to be the Tigers’ final lead.

Tyson made two free throws at the end of the half to give the Golden Gophers a 20-point lead.

In the second half, Minnesota maintained its home-court dominance.

Durkin made a layup off an assist from Langston Reynolds to make it 47-25 in the opening minute. Durkin drained a jump shot later in the half to give the Golden Gophers their first 30-point lead of the game at 68-38 with 10:05 to play.
