A look at the upcoming week on the major auto racing circuits:

NASCAR CUP SERIES: Verizon 200 at the Brickyard (82 laps, 200 miles around a 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course), Indianapolis Motor Speedway; Indianapolis, Ind.

TV: Sunday, 1 p.m. ET (Green flag approximately 1:15 p.m. ET) — NBC (Radio: IMS Radio Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90).

THIS WEEK: The series will race on the Indianapolis road course for the first time, a far cry from the traditional 400-miler run from 1994-2020. … This will be the 28th series race at the track. … Chase Elliott won last week at Watkins Glen, his third straight win at the track. … Denny Hamlin (917 points) and *Kyle Larson share the lead, with *William Byron (786), *Kyle Busch (779), *Joey Logano (760), *Elliott (749), *Martin Truex Jr. (740), *Ryan Blaney (712), Kevin Harvick (710), *Brad Keselowski (678), *Alex Bowman (633), Tyler Reddick (630), *Kurt Busch (576), *Christopher Bell (571), *Michael McDowell (464) and *Aric Almirola (398) making the rest of the drivers currently in playoff spots. The top 16 in points, and race wins, get into the playoffs. Eight drivers are ahead of Almirola on points, but they are out of the playoffs because they don’t have a win. Next on the winless hit list is Reddick.

BEST BETS: Chase Elliott is the favorite again at 2/1. Kyle Larson, also a road-course master, is at 7/2, with Martin Truex Jr. at 6/1 and Kyle Busch, the last driver at better than 10/1, coming in 9/1. Ryan Preece is a fun long shot at 250/1.

NASCAR XFINITY SERIES: Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard 150 (62 laps, 151.2 miles around a 14-turn ,2.439-mile road course), Indianapolis Motor Speedway; Indianapolis, Ind.

TV: Sunday, 4 p.m. ET (Green flag approximately 4:15 p.m. ET) — NBCSN (Radio: IMS Radio Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90).

THIS WEEK: The series is also taking to the Indy road course for the first time, a week after Ty Gibbs won at Watkins Glen. … This will be the 21st of 33 races on the season, with six to go before the playoffs start. … *Austin Cindric (849 points) leads the standings, followed by *AJ Allmendinger (769), Daniel Hemric (708), *Justin Allgaier (693), Harrison Burton (654), *Jeb Burton (624), Justin Haley (610), Noah Gragson (584), Brandon Jones (523), Jeremy Clements (489), Michael Annett (479) and *Myatt Snider (448) making up the 12 drivers who would currently make the playoffs.

NASCAR GANDER OUTDOORS TRUCK SERIES

THIS WEEK: The series takes a week off after 15 of 22 events this season and the playoffs start next week at Madison, Ill. … Austin Hill won last week at Watkins Glen. … John Hunter Nemechek leads the standings (2,049 points), followed by Hill (2,021), Ben Rhodes (2,019), Todd Gilliland (2,015), Sheldon Creed (2,011) Zane Smith (2,009), Matt Crafton (2,004), Carson Hocevar (2,002), Chandler Smith (2,001) and Stewart Friesen (2,001) round out the 10 drivers currently in the seven-race playoffs.

NTT DATA INDYCAR SERIES: BIG MACHINE SPIKED COOLERS GRAND PRIX (85 laps, 207.3 miles around a 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course), Indianapolis Motor Speedway; Indianapolis, Ind.

TV: Saturday, 12:30 p.m. ET (approx. green flag 12:45 p.m. ET) — NBCSN (Radio: Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network, Sirius 214, XM 209, IndyCar.com, indycarradio.com and on the INDYCAR Mobile app).

THIS WEEK: After a bit of a mess on the streets of Nashville, won by Sweden’s Marcus Ericsson, the series runs a co-bill with NASCAR this weekend in the 12th of 16 races on the season. … Spain’s Alex Palou has the points lead (410) in his Honda-powered Dallara, followed by New Zealander Scott Dixon (368) in his Honda, with Mexico’s Pato O’Ward (362) in a Chevrolet-powered Dallara in third, while Josef Newgarden (335) in a Chevy is in fourth and Ericsson in a Honda (331) rounds out the top five.

FORMULA ONE

THIS WEEK: The series takes its usual long summer break, not coming back to the track until the Belgian Grand Prix on Aug. 29. … Great Britain’s Lewis Hamilton (195 points) has the series lead in a Mercedes, with Belgium’s Max Verstappen (187) in second in his Red Bull, followed by Britain’s Lando Norris (113) in a McLaren Mercedes, Finland’s Valtteri Bottas (108) in a Mercedes with Mexico’s Sergio Perez (104) in a Red Bull rounding out the top five.

NATIONAL HOT ROD ASSOCIATION: Menards NHRA Nationals, Friday-Sunday, at Heartland Motorsports Park; Topeka, Kan.

THIS WEEK: The series is back in action after a week off and will be on the track for six straight weeks starting this week at Topeka, Kansas. … Steve Torrence leads the Top Fuel standings (1,014 points) and has clinched a playoff berth, followed by Antron Brown (701) and Brittany Force (625). … Ron Capps took over the lead in Funny Car (734), followed by Bob Tasca III (729) and John Force (698). … Greg Anderson leads Pro Stock (835), with Aaron Stanfield (709) and Erica Enders (648) behind him. … Matt Smith (813) leads the Motorcycles, with Steve Johnson (551) and Scotty Pollacheck (491) giving chase.
