LeBron’s ‘nephew’ commits to Ohio State

Four-star guard Meechie Johnson Jr., often referred to by LeBron James as his “nephew,” committed to Ohio State’s 2021 recruiting class.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound junior from Cleveland was also being recruited by Michigan State, Wisconsin, Indiana and Xavier.

“I am staying home and it is a great feeling,” he told 247Sports after announcing his decision Tuesday. “I know we are going to get a great class and we are going to do some special things. I just couldn’t be more excited about being an Ohio State Buckeye.”

Johnson is the No. 3-ranked player in Ohio, the No. 5 combo guard in the nation and the No. 71 overall prospect in his class, per the 247Sports Composite.

His father, Meechie Johnson Sr., and James grew up together. The Los Angeles Lakers star has routinely referenced the younger Johnson as his nephew.
