Former Louisville Cardinals player Chane Benahan was arrested Saturday night and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a stolen firearm, according to multiple reports.
Benahan, 25, was in the backseat of a car stopped on Seventh Street Road by the Louisville Metro Police.
According to the arrest report, the car had marijuana residue and Benahan was sitting next to an “AK-47 style rifle” that had been stolen from Troy, Ind.
Everyone in the vehicle faced the same charges, according to the reports.
Benahan was a part of the 2013 Cardinals team that won the national championship. That title has since been vacated over a sex scandal involving recruits and players.
Benahan was dismissed from Louisville the following season over a violation of team rules that was later revealed to be the use of marijuana.
The 6-foot-6 Benahan then entered the 2014 NBA Draft, but went unselected. He has since bounced around between the NBA’s Development League and various international leagues.
In 2017-18, Benahan played nine games with the Salt Lake City Stars of the NBA’s G League and averaged 7.3 points and 5.4 rebounds in 21.6 minutes per game.
